The DNA test results on a body initially thought to be that of ICC witness Meshack Yebei have revealed that it is not his.

According to the results released by police on Thursday morning, the body belongs to Yusuf Hussein, a resident of Kaimosi who was working as a matatu tout and who disappeared at the same time Yebei was reported missing.

Police indicated that 99 per cent of the DNA results showed the body was that of Mr Hussein.

The body was retrieved from River Yala in Nandi three weeks ago and was initially believed to be that of Mr Yebei.

Mr Yebei's family had made burial arrangements, but they were halted after investigators said that fingerprint tests showed the body could be that of Hussein and not Yebei’s.

This compelled officials to conduct DNA tests to ascertain who the dead man was.

Mr Yebei’s family has on several occasions insisted that they believed the body was Mr Yebei’s while Mr Hussein’s family has been calling the investigators to expedite the investigations so that they could bury their kin.

Mystery now surrounds the disappearance of Mr Yebei, who was last seen in December 2014.

Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua called for investigations to unravel the Yebei mystery.

“The murder of Yusuf must be investigated with speed as well as the disappearance of Yebei,” she tweeted soon after the release of DNA results.
