Muslim clerics in North Rift have condemned the alleged loss of Sh5.2 billion at the Ministry of Health.

The clerics, led by the North Rift Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya Chairman Abubakar Bini, said that all those involved in it should be dealt with in accordance with the law.

“When corruption touches a sensitive sector like health, ordinary wananchi are in danger,” he said.

“Those involved in this scam should be arrested and their property seized until investigations into the scandal are concluded. If they are cleared their property should be returned back to them unconditionally,” said Mr Bini.

“This space should now be taken over by those who have looted public coffers. If they are left to defend themselves while outside, they will use their influence and financial muscle to interfere with investigations,” said Mr Bini.

The money in question is suspected to have been stolen in the last financial year or paid to phoney companies, according to a leaked report addressed to the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Health, Dr Cleopa Mailu.
