A newly recruited police reservist was shot and injured by bandits in the ongoing security operation in Kerio Valley

Mokora Location Chief James Sirmo said the victim was shot Sunday afternoon by suspected Pokot raiders, who ambushed police reservists on patrol.

The attackers are said to have fled towards Chepkererat Location that is one of the 19 areas gazetted by Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery as disturbed and dangerous in Baringo County.

"The victim suffered leg and chest gunshot wounds,” said Mr Sirmo.

Deputy President William Ruto last week issued a shoot to kill order on armed criminals in the volatile region where a security operation is underway.

Mr Ruto also commissioned Integrated Police Reservists in both Baringo and Elgeyo Marakwet counties, which have hit by banditry and cattle rustling.

Meanwhile, scores of houses were set ablaze at Cheratak area in Pokot Central on Sunday afternoon following the murder of a villager.

Pokot Central OCPD Geoffrey Kithinji said a man in the village picked a quarrel with his neighbour, who picked up a gun and shot him.

"This is just the problem of illegal guns in the hands of civilians. We will soon roll out a massive disarmament exercise,” said Mr Kithinji.
