  • Mother and daughter went missing on Saturday until Monday afternoon when the deceased’s son, Harun Mackenzie, 13, notified his uncle, Charles Mukora of the disappearance.

Police have exhumed the body of woman and her daughter who were allegedly hacked to death and buried in a shallow grave by her husband in Gitaraka village, Karaba area of Embu County.

The badly mutilated and decaying bodies of Ms Rose Koki, 40, together with her daughter Cynthia Kanini, 2, were pulled out of the shallow grave about 10 metres from their main house.

The bodies had deep cuts in the head, neck, hands, legs and ribs.

Mother and daughter went missing on Saturday until Monday afternoon when the deceased’s son, Harun Mackenzie, 13, notified his uncle, Charles Mukora of the disappearance.

Reportedly, the deceased and her husband, Francis Musyoki, have been embroiled in a row with the husband disowning the deceased child, claiming the mother sired her outside marriage.

SOMBRE MOOD

A sombre mood engulfed the usually quiet village as police from Makutano police station led by Officer Commanding Station (OCS), Francis Fundi, carried out the exercise after obtaining an order from Wang’uru Magistrate’s court.

Karaba chief Stephen Nzioka said they suspect the man committed the monstrous act on Saturday since that is when his wife, who usually takes part in many public activities, went missing.

Mr Nzioka said that the man, who has since gone into hiding had been lying that his wife had traveled to visit her parents in Ithanga, in the neighbouring Machakos County.

“People had seen him digging the trench near the main house, but thought he was just doing normal chores.

“He is now at large, we suspect that he carried out the act on Saturday because that was the last time that the wife was spotted,” said Mr Nzioka.

DIALOGUE

It is then that Mr Mukora, together with some area residents discovered a fresh mound of soil which resembled a grave and start investigations.

A bad smell emanating from the mound of soil and visible blood spots prompted them to report the matter at Karaba patrol base.

“Police have been manning the area as they pursued a court order. It is a very sad occurrence,” said Mr Nzioka, who urged residents to resolve differences through dialogue.

The bodies are being preserved at the Embu Level Five hospital mortuary pending autopsy.
