Three dead, six injured after matatu driver rams into bus

Three people died, while six others sustained injuries after matatu they were travelling in collided head on with a bus at Kiaragana, along the Meru-Nairobi highway, Embu County.

The victims were traveling towards Meru aboard a Mekina Sacco matatu when the crash occurred Tuesday evening.

Embu East police boss Peter Muchemi said the matatu driver was overtaking at a corner downhill when he rammed into a bus belonging to Kensilver Company which was heading toward Nairobi.

He said following the collision the matatu driver lost control of the vehicle and landed in a ditch after the vehicle rolled several times, killing the passengers.

Six passengers who were travelling in the matatu sustained injuries and are admitted to various hospitals in Embu County.

Both vehicles were extensively damaged and were towed to Runyenjes police station.

Mr Muchemi said residents who rushed to the scene had a difficult time trying to rescue the victims who were trapped in the mangled wreckage of the Matatu.

He cautioned drivers to stop overtaking along sharp bends in order to avoid such accidents.
