Students of Siakago Boys High School in Embu County went on the rampage Tuesday night, protesting the shaming of their colleagues who were earlier in the day found swimming in a river.

They broke window panes and threw stones before storming out of the institution during the 10.30pm incident.

Riandu Chief John Makenge said about 10 students had earlier in the day been found swimming in Ena River during class time and a teacher took their clothes.

The students then went back to school and wore another set of clothes and went about with their normal class work.

In the evening the students, together with many others, confronted the teacher and demanded their clothes which were handed back. They were to be punished later.

STONED DORM WINDOWS

However, immediately after evening preps, the rowdy students pelted the dormitories with stones but police arrived in time and prevented them from marching to the school’s administration block.

“The police didn’t provoke them or go near them but ensured they (students) didn’t access the administration area,” said Mr Makenge.

The officers then switched off electricity supply and majority of the students, fearing that the police wanted to attack them, fled.

“Not everyone was rowdy, some of the students had even joined us and spent the night in the school,” said Mr Makenge.

The incident came a day after students from Kamama Boys High School in the same county were sent home after they went on the rampage claiming they had been prevented from interacting with girls from a neighbouring school.

The students smashed window panes on their dormitories and classrooms during the Monday 11pm incident after they were denied enough time to socialise with girls from the neighbouring school.
