What you need to know:

  • Mr Muturi recounted how he got the post after he failed to recapture the Mbeere North parliamentary seat.
  • Ms Mbarire said the region would only reclaim the Speaker post if residents voted for Jubilee Party candidates.

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has called on members of Embu community to vote for Jubilee Party candidates to ensure the county continues to get development projects.

He said his post had immensely benefited the county and it would be a show of ingratitude if they didn't reciprocate by ensuring President Uhuru Kenyatta is re-elected.

Speaking at Kanyuambora market, Mr Muturi recounted how he got the post after he failed to recapture the Mbeere North parliamentary seat.

REWARD FOR LOYALTY
He said President Uhuru Kenyatta, whom he referred to as a close friend, had during campaigns promised to appoint him the Majority Chief Whip.

"It was a blessing in disguise. It is God who made me lose the seat so that I can get a bigger seat. The President didn't know who to appoint as majority chief whip since that is the post he had reserved for me.

"If we have such a person who elevates you to such levels, and then you abandon him in the hour of need, it would be bad. He is the Jubilee Party leader and if he has honoured this village so much, let us support Jubilee Party candidates," he recalled.

Equally, Runyenjes MP Cecily Mbarire rallied the residents to support Jubilee Party.

They said, according to the Constitution, since Mr Muturi is third in the Executive hierarchy, it would be a big blow if residents shunned Jubilee Party.

"I'm sure Jubilee Party will carry the day in Kiambu where the President hails from. It will also be the same in Uasin Gishu where Deputy President comes from.

"This being JB Muturi's home, we must ensure Jubilee Party scoops all the seats," Ms Mbarire appealed.

PEACE
Ms Mbarire said the region would only reclaim the Speaker post if residents voted for Jubilee Party candidates.

She mentioned some of the leaders from the county holding senior government positions: Ms Sicily Kariuki (Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs) and her Principal Secretary Lillian Mbogo-Omollo, among others.

Also present were Mbeere North MP Muriuki Njagagua, Embu Assembly Speaker Kariuki Mate, Ms Mbarire’s running mate Dickson Murunguma and 10 MCAs.

They also called for peace during and after the elections.
