A man was Friday injured at a funeral ceremony after a fight broke out among family members in Handiti, Kakamega County.

According to pastor Benson Sohero of Christian Gospel Evangelism, an argument over the deceased’s burial site resulted in the fight.

“The family of the deceased want her body buried here at Handiti, but her husband’s family insists the body be buried at his home in Khayega.

“We want to listen to both sides of the family and reach an amicable resolution. This fighting is not a good send-off for the deceased,’’ Mr Sohero said.

Mr Oscar Masinde, a brother of the deceased, said his family had gone to collect the body Friday from the Kakamega Provincial General Hospital mortuary for the burial set for Saturday.

“When we arrived, we found my sister arguing with another woman over the burial site. I was hit by a stone on my forehead thrown by the woman when I tried to intervene,” said Mr Masinde.

The incident prompted Kakamega anti-riot police to move in and restore calm.

Mr Masinde was expected to record a statement with the police after being treated at Kakamega Provincial General Hospital.
