Gang attacks ranch in Lamu, burns vehicle and offices

Armed attackers raided Lamu Conservation Trust located within Amu Ranch in Lamu County Monday night and burnt offices and a vehicle.

The attackers burnt offices, stores and a Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle at Milihoi camp located between Mpeketoni and Hindi in the 10 pm incident.

Lamu Conservation Trust farm logistics manager Mr Bwanamkuu Bwanaheri said no one was injured in the incident.

He said two Kenya Police Reservists guarding the offices and workers had to hide in the forest during the attack as they were outnumbered.

The incident comes barely two days after gunmen killed 22 people in Lamu and Tana River counties.

Hundreds of families have since fled their farms on the outskirts of Hindi trading centre.

The close to 500 families, worried about their safety, spent Sunday night in the cold at the compound of Hindi Prison in Lamu West.

Deputy President William Ruto, who toured Hindi area after the Saturday night attack, ordered Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo to ensure the attackers were arrested quickly and charged.
