Police officer dies, another injured after car collides with truck carrying cows in Garissa

A police officer has died after the vehicle he was driving collided head on with a truck ferrying cows along the Madogo-Garissa road in Garissa County on Monday night.

Confirming the incident, Garissa OCPD Aron Moriasi said another police officer was seriously injured and was taken to the Garissa County Referral Hospital where he is receiving treatment.

The officers are attached to the Hulugho Police Station

Four occupants of the truck were also slightly injured in the midnight accident.

The OCPD added that the injured included a mother and her 3-year-old daughter who had hiked a lift to Nairobi.

He said the body of the dead officer was transported to Nairobi for preservation and that plans to inform his relatives are underway.

Mr Elias Abdi, the owner of the cows which were being ferried in the truck, said they had left Wajir at around 1pm Monday before the accident happened late in the night.

He said he lost eight cows all valued at over Sh300,000.
