At least four people were killed Tuesday morning when their vehicle ran over a home-made bomb in Dadaab, Garissa County.

Northeastern Regional Coordinator Mohamud Saleh said all the four occupants of the pickup truck died on the spot.

The victims include a minor. The incident occurred at Aligabay, between Kulan and Liboi, a few kilometres from the Somalia border.

Speaking to the Nation by phone, Mr Saleh said police believe the assailants were targeting security officers on patrol near the border.

“For the last few weeks we have increased our patrols along the border and we have every reason to believe that these attackers were after our security officers,” he said.

He said police were pursuing the attackers, adding that there had been no attacks in the area recently.

“They have now resorted to attacks along the border as we have driven them out of towns,” he said.
