Garissa governor Nathif Jama speaks out against corruption

Garissa County governor Nathif Jama Adam on Monday warned officials of his administration to refrain from corruption.

Speaking during swearing-in ceremony of County Chief Officers in Garissa, Nathif said public officers should adhere to the law and provide service delivery instead enriching themselves individually.

“You have not been appointed to benefit as an individual but to work for the community at large,” said the governor. His sentiments were echoed by County Women Representative Shukran Gure and Dadaab MP Mohamed Dahiye.

Shukran said that chief officers should do justice to all adding that the county had been lagging behind because of injustices by past regimes.

'ACCOUNTABLE BEFORE GOD'

Mr Nathif told chief officers that they were the principle accounting officers of their respective departments with the responsibility of implementing all matters including finances.

While quoting verses from the holy Quran, the governor acknowledged all “will be accountable even before God.” He told the officers to serve the public equally without fear or favour.

He said that his administration was complete with the swearing in of the chief officers, adding that a major development project would soon be unveiled. He said his administration would hit the ground running and major development plans would be advertised for the public to know the government agenda.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by members of the public, religious leaders, members of the County Assembly and county executive members.

The officers had previously been vetted before members of the County Assembly.
