More than 3,000 guests are expected in Kabarnet on Wednesday ahead of Thursday's Baringo Entrepreneurship and Expo Summit.

The high number of guests is a major headache for the organisers given that hotels in the region have a bed capacity of just 1,000.

The organisers of the summit dubbed ‘BEES 2017’ have made arrangements with neighbouring Elgeyo-Marakwet to host some of the guests.

Baringo County tourism and enterprise development executive Kipchumba Keitany acknowledged that Kabarnet hotels cannot accommodate all the visitors.

But he said they had made arrangements for high end exhibitors and visitors to be accommodated at a newly built hotel owned by former President Moi’s family.

The hotel has a bed capacity of 40.

“The accommodation may not be enough but we will give priority to high-end clients. We are also liaising with other hotels such as Lake Bogoria Spa Resort, Soi Lodge, Cheptebo Guest House and Sego lodge,” Mr Keitany told Nation.

On Tuesday, event organiser Isaac Kalua of Ultra Mega Group said they were happy with the build-up to the event.

The conference proceedings will be televised live by NTV from 10am tomorrow.

“We approached Nation Media Group as our preferred natural media partners because they have the internal capacity to build brands and the passion with which they take up the job is unmatched,” Dr Kalua said.

The former chief executive of the 2007 IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Mombasa is an events specialist and also handled the Nandi investment conference in April. He is organising a similar summit in Kisii next February.

The organisers are using a mascot, a bee, to drum up support for the conference.

“We wanted to do things differently and put up a memorable event and that’s why we came up with the idea of the mascot,” said Dr Kalua, who is also a member of the Sustainable Development Commission at the International Association of Athletics Federations.

Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi said the county is rich in resources and the conference would offer a great opportunity for investors.
