Men-in-Black block cameras at ODM meeting in Oyugis

A standoff ensued briefly between journalists and ODM security men notoriously known as “Men in Black” during the delegates meeting in Oyugis, Homa Bay County Friday.

They confronted journalists who were covering the event and blocked cameras from focusing on the main dais. 

“Hatutaki mambo yenu hapa (we don’t want you here),” they menacingly told journalists.

This came after comments by some politicians who accused the media of fuelling trouble in ODM.

IGNORED RAILA SPOKESMAN

They even ignored pleas by Mr Odinga’s spokesman, Mr Dennis Onyango, to allow journalists to do their work.

The Director of Political Affairs at ODM Secretariat Wafula Buke intervened for the men to stop.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga then seized the opportunity to calm down the situation by addressing the media before going for a closed-door session with the delegates.

“It is unfortunate that the media deliberately quote us out of context,” said Mr Odinga
