Security has been heightened in Kom, Isiolo County, following the killing of an 18-year-old herder on Monday night.

This follows tension in Kom on Tuesday morning after the herder, identified as Abduba Roba, was shot dead by two suspected Samburu bandits.

Merti Assistant Deputy Commissioner Jeremiah Tsuma said police had been deployed to counter any retaliatory attacks from communities and herders in the area.

The bandits are said to have fled the area after the attack.

“We have held several meetings in the area to calm down the communities. We are following up on the matter together with the security team from Samburu East,” said Mr Tsuma.

No animal was stolen during the attack.

Several herders from neighbouring counties have migrated into the grazing area in search of pasture and water for their livestock due to the prevailing drought.

However, the administrator noted that the situation had returned to normal, adding that criminal investigation officers were investigating the attack.

The herder was buried yesterday according to Islamic teachings.
