Kajiado County Assembly rejects Lenku's nominees

Two nominees presented Governor Joseph ole Lenku for the positions of County Executive Committee were Wednesday rejected by the Kajiado County Assembly.

Caroline Chege (Public Service) and Joseph Sankale (Water and Irrigation) nominations were thrown out as the Assembly called on the Governor to consider competence, experience and performance in his nominations and not political rewards.

CREDENTIALS

Ms Chege failed to provide original academic documents despite being given additional time to present the papers. “The Committee nevertheless indulged the nominee after she requested to be given a little more to produce the said documents but failed to turn up,” said Mr Julius Moipaai, the Leader of Majority.

Ms Chege had vied for Kajiado Senator position on a Jubilee Party but lost out at the nomination stage.

Mr Sankale’s nomination was rejected on what the committee termed a ‘complete lack of knowledge in the docket he was nominated for’. “His inability to correctly answer even the simplest of the questions posted to him by the panel was astonishing,” said the committee’s report.

COMPETENCE

Nominated MCA, Onesmus Ngogoyo said the Assembly acted in the interests of the people of the Kajiado. “This report sends a strong message that competence is a factor to be considered on county appointments, that this House is house of rules and does what the law requires,” said Mr Ngogoyo.

The Assembly however approved five other nominees. They include Alex Leshinka (Roads, Public Works, Housing and Energy), Esther Somoire (Health Services), Moses Ole Narok (Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries), Michael Semera (County Treasury) and Hamilton Parseina (Lands and Physical Planning).
