What you need to know:

  • Ms Ameso said the failure by the board to deliver enough ballot papers in Khisa West ward denied her supporters the opportunity to vote.
  • Similarly in Ikolomani constituency, Idakho North MCA Bernard Lukulu demanded a repeat of the nomination.

ODM party has cancelled nomination results for Khwisero constituency due to irregularities.

The Kakamega County elections board chairman David Sasala said the decision was made after anomalies were detected during the primaries conducted yesterday.

“The decision has been communicated to us and we are waiting for further instructions from the national elections board on what should happen next,” he said.

MISSING NAMES

Mr Sasala said that the exercise, together with the Matungu parliamentary contest, will be repeated on Thursday.

Some aspirants' names for the Matungu MP post were missing on the ballot papers.

Kakamega Woman Representative Rachael Ameso, who took part in the nomination for Khwisero parliamentary seat, had protested that the exercise did not proceed smoothly in Khisa West, which she deems her strognhold.

Ms Ameso said the failure by the board to deliver enough ballot papers in the ward on time denied her supporters the opportunity to exercise their democratic right.

In the nomination, incumbent Benjamin Andola got 6,154 votes, Mr Benjamin Anadama came in second with 3,995 votes and Ms Ameso garnered 2,346 votes.

INTERFERENCE

Ms Ameso vowed to appeal the outcome.

Similarly in Ikolomani constituency, Idakho North MCA Bernard Lukulu demanded a repeat of the nomination.

Mr Lukulu said there was a lot of interference by a senior ODM official.

“It’s a shame that ODM party can organise such a shambolic nomination when the party has always accused the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission of being unprepared to conduct credible polls,” he said.
