Voting in Kitutu Chache South by-election under way

What you need to know:

  • Election was postponed in Kitutu Chache South constituency following the death of  Jubilee candidate Leonard Mwamba.
  • The polling, which began at 6am, will continue till 5pm.
  • There are about  59,000 registered voters in the region.

Voting for by-election Kitutu Chache South constituency is on Tuesday underway.

Andrew Maubi (Wiper), Richard Onyonka (Ford Kenya), Samwel Omwando (ODM), Antony Kibagendi (Jubilee), Jimmy Onkangi (PDP), Morara Nyang'au (Kanu) and Justus Mochoge (ANC) are the main contestants.

The polling, which began at 6am, will continue till 5pm.

Returning Officer is Hilda Imbo said voting kicked off well in all the 115 polling stations in the constituency.

There are about  59,000 registered voters in the region.

FAIR POLL

In a briefing with presiding officers, Ms Imbo said IEBC will ensure honesty and transparency during the process.

Daraja Mbili Secondary School polling station has been moved to Daraja Mbili Primary school so as not to interfere with KCSE candidates sitting for their examinations.

Election was postponed in Kitutu Chache South constituency following the death of  Jubilee candidate Leonard Mwamba, two weeks to the August 8 polls.

Jubilee handed a direct ticket to Anthony Kibagendi.

Meanwhile, similar by-elections are being held in two wards in Nyamira and Garissa counties.
