Leaders and residents of Busia County on Monday took to social media and asked Teso North MP Arthur Odera to apologise to Governor Sospeter Ojaamong ‘for undermining the county boss’.

The MP’s security team clashed with that of Mr Ojaamong during a fundraiser on Friday in the legislator’s constituency.

There was an attempt by Mr Odera’s supporters to block the governor from entering the venue.

The two leaders have been at loggerheads over management of county affairs.

Through Facebook posts, the residents accused Mr Odera of undermining the governor by causing chaos at the meeting.

Chakol North MCA Stephen Ekapolon and residents, Lucy Achieno and Fredrick Barasa, called for the MP’s arrest.

“I condemn the incident in the strongest terms. Leaders from the county should not stop others from attending public functions in their areas,” said Mr Ekapolon.

Members of staff in the office of governor were last Friday injured during the fracas at a fundraiser in St Stephen’s Keng’atuny Secondary School.

The violence began when some residents attempted to block Mr Ojaamong from accessing the dias leading to chaos as the two leaders watched.

Ms Achieno said: “Violence is totally uncalled for under whatever circumstances. The scenes in the Teso North drama were the most unfortunate in Busia County. Tolerance is a value in leadership.”

Mr Barasa said the governor deserved respect adding that leaders should not mobilise or incite people to fight.

“Politics should not be used as a tool to divide the county but instead be used to bring people together in terms of development,” he said in his post.
