Kisumu County to train boda boda operators on road safety

Boda boda operators in Kisumu County will be trained on road safety as a way of reducing road accidents, governor Jack Ranguma has said.

Mr Ranguma said on Friday that a total of 2000 boda boda operators in the county will be trained and awarded driving licenses.

He said his administration will set aside funds in the next financial year to train boda boda operators on how to use road signs to curb road accidents witnessed in the lakeside city.

Mr Ranguma also said that his government will purchase motorcycles for youth to use as a source of income.

He said the County will also provide insurance cover to all boda boda riders.

“We want to support the motorists in a way we can. We are also planning to take others to Rwanda to see how their counterpart’s do,” Mr Ranguma said during the Labour Day celebrations.

He said that 450 boda boda operators will be trained in the first phase.
