Efforts by impeached Kisumu Assembly Speaker Ann Adul to report to work were thwarted Tuesday when she found the door to her office locked.

Ms Adul told Nation.co.ke that her attempts to access the office following a court order challenging her dismissal were hindered Tuesday morning.

The High Court in Kisumu on Friday last week reinstated Ms Adul pending the hearing of her case this Friday.

Lady Justice Esther Maina issued the orders barring members of the county assembly from evicting Ms Adul from her office and official residence.

Consequently, Justice Maina extended previous orders that had barred the House from electing a new Speaker and clerk following the removal of Ms Adul.

However, Ms Adul said her attempts to access the office at 8am were unsuccessful after she found her door locked.

WENT BACK HOME

“I was forced to go back home and await the hearing of my case on Friday,” she said.

Ms Adul was last Tuesday evening impeached after 39 members of the assembly voted in favour of a censor motion tabled against her.

The motion, tabled by West Nyakach Ward Representative James Omollo, accused Ms Adul of violating House standing orders by “angrily abandoning” the assembly while in session.

Acting Speaker Samuel Ombogo subsequently declared the seat vacant and directed the clerk of the House to gazette the vacant position.

But according to assembly Majority Whip Isaiah Onyango, the Speaker’s claims that she was denied access to her office were not true as her office and that of the clerk were operational.

“As far as we are concerned, we now have a Speaker and a clerk who use the offices. They are operational,” he said.

Mr Onyango added that owing to her impeachment last week, the Speaker was a stranger to the assembly premises.

“The operations of the assembly are going on as usual. Nothing has been crippled so far,” said Mr Onyango.
