Mrs Philister Monyi Ngere, 65, was attacked in her farm at Kabienge village in South West Nyakach. The suspected assailant, identified as Mr Tom Otieno Atela from the neighbouring Bar village, later surrendered himself to police at the Pap Onditi police station where he is currently being held.

Detectives say that initial investigations had revealed that the suspect was angered by the deceased’s refusal to let his children collect firewood from her farm.

Police say the sexagenarian’s head was completely shattered with deep cuts also present on the right hand. The body was moved to the Jaramogi Oginga Teaching and Referral hospital.

REVENGE ATTACK ON MP

Last week, three men raided the home of Nyakach MP Aduma Owuor at 7:30pm, murdered his parents and set the house on fire. (READ: 10 arrested in probe over MP’s parents’ killing)

The attack came barely three weeks after the MP reported to Parliament that his life was in danger because of the tough stance he had taken over insecurity in the constituency. The three attackers are believed to have been on a revenge mission; the cows in the compound were not stolen. (READ: Revenge link in Nyakach deaths)

Mr Aduma had urged the police to fully investigate the attack, claiming that the people held in custody might not be behind the attacks.

Police Inspector-General David Kimaiyo, who accompanied Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Co-ordination of National Government Joseph ole Lenku as they visited the volatile Chemelil area of Kisumu County last weekend, said that should insecurity persist in the area, a security operation will be launched to identify the culprits.
