Kisumu Senator Anyang Nyong’o and Governor Jack Ranguma are embroiled in a war of words over the delay to establish a management board.

While Prof Nyong’o asked the governor to expedite the formation of the county’s management board, Mr Ranguma said the senator has equally abdicated his legislative responsibility.

The county boss said the senator was only playing politics at the expense of pushing for devolution to succeed in the county.

But the senator said the three years of waiting for the board to be formed was long enough.

Prof Nyong’o asked the governor to stop taking people in circles over delays in creation of the board that is expected to oversee management of county resources.

The senator said absence of the board had made it difficult for Kisumu to do business and also demanded answers on the progress of creation of a land management board.

Prof Nyong’o further warned against alleged frustrations on acting city manager Doris Ombara by the executive.

In a letter to the clerk of the county assembly on January 25, Ms Ombara said the executive had denied the town sufficient funds for its operations.

This was after the assembly committee on tourism asked her to respond on why the town was poorly managed.

Ms Ombara said in the letter that the town was unable to carry out critical functions, such as cleaning streets and buying vaccines, since the county government had not allocated it cash.

However, Mr Ranguma said the issues raised by Prof Nyong’o were politically instigated saying the process of forming the city board has begun and that the positions have been advertised by the county public service board.
