Ranguma launches new drive to raise voter Kisumu numbers

Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma is set to unveil a voter registration hotline to enable those who cannot reach the polling centres do so.
At the same time, vehicles and boda bodas will be dispatched to all the seven sub-counties of Kisumu to assist in voter registration.
This initiative aims to boost voter numbers in Kisumu by ensuring the elderly, the disabled and sick people are not locked out of the ongoing voter registration.
“Those who have difficulty in reaching the registration centres will simply call the hotline and either a vehicle or a boda boda, depending on the terrain and the situation of the caller, will be sent to pick and take him to [a] registration centre,” said Mr Ranguma.

The region is lagging behind in the ongoing voter registration.
The low voter turnout has been attributed to lack of IDs by many people in Kisumu, making it difficult for the region to hit its 177, 738 target of new voters by February 16.
Only 52,303 new voters have been registered with only eight days remaining.
Kisumu has only registered 21 per cent of the targeted voters compared to other Cord regions like Eastern which have hit 87 per cent.
