Jubilee-nominated Senator Joy Gwendo has denied claims that she has ditched the governing coalition for the opposition.

Ms Gwendo said she will use the Jubilee Party as her political vehicle in her bid to unseat Kisumu East MP Shakeel Shabbir in the August 8 elections.

“I am in Jubilee Party to stay. The fact that I come from the Luo community does not mean I must be in Cord or Nasa,” said Ms Gwendo.

She spoke at Oasis of Hope Secondary School in Kisumu East where she donated a water tank.

“It is in order to belong to different parties. There is no reason why two children from the same family should sail in the same boat. We must learn never to carry our eggs in one basket,” she said in an apparent reference to her being in Jubilee and not Cord.

Cord is the most favoured coalition in the region and pressure has been piling on the senator to cross over.

CONFIDENT TO WIN

“I am comfortable in Jubilee and confident of winning the Kisumu East MP’s seat come August 8,” she said.

The senator said she will officially launch her bid for the seat in March.

“I have made mistakes, but I don’t regret them because if I didn’t make them I would not have learned how to do things right and be a better leader,” she said.

She said she is confident that the projects she has initiated in the constituency will help her to win the seat.

“I have initiated a lot of projects that have created positive change amongst the people of Kiusmu East, [and] thus I am confident of being the next MP,” added the senator.

Apart from Mr Shabbir, Ms Gwendo will face off with businessman John Anditi, former Kenya Sugar Board director Nicholas Oricho, Oselu Obondo and Peter Odhengo.
