Police in Kitui are investigating the circumstances in which a secondary school teacher committed suicide at a guest house, while traveling home.

The English teacher at St Lukes Boys’ Secondary School in Lower Yatta was found hanging inside a lodging at Kanyonyoo Market along the Thika-Garissa highway.

According to Lower Yatta police boss Patrick Makokha, the 41-year-old teacher had visited her husband in Nairobi during school mid-term break but left without informing anyone where she was heading to.

SUICIDE NOTE

Mr Makokha said detectives collected a supposed suicide note with only two telephone numbers which were later found to belong to her husband.

“We also found bus ticket showing she had travelled from Nairobi that same day and alighted at Kanyonyoo Market where she went straight to the guest house,” Mr Makokha said.

The OCPD said it seems her motive of leaving the telephone numbers may have been to get identified easily but it is not clear where she was headed to.

“We have asked the husband to record statement with us in order to establish what happened and why she resorted to taking her own life” he said.

CHIEF DIES

Elsewhere, residents of Kanyangi location are mourning the death of their long serving Chief Anderson Nganga who died while undergoing treatment at Mutomo Mission Hospital.

Kitui Rural MP Charles Nyamai while condoling with the bereaved family said the chief will be remembered for his dedication to duty.

“We have lost a very humble servant of the people who served all without bias” Mr Nyamai wrote on his Facebook page.
