An Administration Police officer was shot by his colleague following a bar brawl in Mpeketoni, Lamu County.

The officer, who was shot on the right knee, is admitted to Mpeketoni Sub-County Hospital.

A police officer who requested anonymity since he is not authorised to speak to the media said an argument ensued between two policemen at Watiri Bar.

One of the policemen rushed to the police camp and armed himself with his official G3 riffle.

β€œHe went back to the bar where he aimed at his colleague. Before he could shoot, the targeted officer managed to push the muzzle downwards but the bullet accidentally hit the AP on his right knee and suffered a fracture,” said the officer.

The officer was later disarmed and arrested by colleagues from the Mpeketoni Police station who went to the scene after hearing gunshots.

Lamu County Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri said the matter was under investigation and that the aggressor will be arraigned in court.
