30,000 bottles of lethal brew destroyed in Makueni County

More than 30,000 bottles of toxic brew were Thursday morning destroyed in Kilungu District in Makueni County.

Makueni Sub-County commissioner Henry Metto witnessed the exercise at Kilome Police Station.

Mr Metto said the illicit drinks were seized from local bars during a raid conducted by police.

He said the destroyed brews were named Chairman, Chebel and Sacramental, which were unfit for human consumption.

At least 27 people died early this year in the county after drinking toxic brew. Several others went blind after consuming the lethal brew.

The commissioner warned bar owners found selling lethal brew that they would be arrested and prosecuted.
