Maendeleo Chap Chap aspirant for the Machakos Senate seat has called for peace ahead of his rally on Friday at Mulu Mutisya Grounds.

Carlos Kioko, who will face off with Senator Johnson Muthama of Wiper, said he had learnt of goons planning to disrupt the rally, but urged his supporters to exercise restraint.

“I have been informed by reliable sources of plans by our opponents to cause chaos because they are unhappy with the warm reception we are getting all over Machakos.
We shall not fall for this provocation,” Mr Kioko told the Nation on phone on Thursday.

He said the rally was a question-and-answer session on the role of the Senate and not the “politics of provocation which we have experienced for the last four years.”

Mr Kioko, whose background is marketing and communications, has been holding town hall meetings which he says are more meaningful as they are interactive.

He has decried Mr Muthama's frosty relationship with Governor Alfred Mutua saying it had impaired service delivery and denied the county the all-important backing it needs from the Senate.

“We have witnessed politics of provocation and incompetence from the incumbent senator in the role of overseeing our county Executive. I will l cultivate a relationship of trust, mutual respect and honesty,” he said.
