Machakos gubernatorial aspirant Wavinya Ndeti has dismissed a recent poll by research firm Trends and Insights for Africa (Tifa) showing incumbent Governor Alfred Mutua leading the other contestants in popularity.

Governor Mutua scored 75 per cent while his rivals — Ms Ndeti and Deputy Governor Bernard Kiala — scored 8 per cent and 7 per cent respectively.

East African Legislative Assembly MP Peter Mathuki got 1 per cent.

Ms Ndeti said the polls were not credible since Governor Mutua has lost support among the business community, religious leaders and even county workers.

She said she is confident of winning in the August elections as the reality on the ground is different from what is being portrayed in the media.

“He could be the one sponsoring the polls to show that he is winning but he will be voted out very early on August 8,” said Ms Ndeti.

She accused Dr Mutua of spending public funds to advertise himself in the media in order to sway public opinion to his side.

Ms Ndeti vied in the 2013 Machakos gubernatorial elections and came second to Dr Mutua.
