Kibwezi Wiper candidate charged with causing disturbance

The Wiper party candidate for Kibwezi West Constituency in Makueni County James Mbaluka has been arraigned in a Makindu court and charged with creating disturbance at a government office.
Mr Mbaluka was accused of storming the office of Mulala Assistant County Commissioner on Monday in the company of other people and disrupted the process of listing old people to the government's cash transfer scheme.
He claimed that he had word that the registration was intended to collect personal details of local voters to aid in the rigging of the August 8 elections in favour of Jubilee candidates.
He was detained for hours at Emali Police Station on Wednesday before he was set free after paying a Sh20,000 cash bail.
Mr Mbaluka denied the charges before Senior Magistrate Gerard Mutiso and was released on a personal bond of Sh20,000.
The courtroom was jammed with hundreds of his supporters and local leaders, among them Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana.
His case was set for hearing on October 30, 2017, the magistrate said.
