Mandera North police boss Charles Jaranda is dead.

Mr Jaranda died on Tuesday afternoon from natural causes, Mandera County Commissioner Fredrick Shisia said.

Mr Shisia said the divisional police boss reported his failing health to the Mandera North deputy county commissioner on Tuesday.

“The late Mr Jaranda reported to area deputy commissioner and he was allowed permission to travel to Nairobi today to seek medical attention but the unexpected happened,” he said.

Mr Shisia said the body was airlifted to Malindi for burial on Wednesday.

Rhamu town OCS Juma Boy mourned the death of his boss, describing him as a hardworking police officer.

“We have worked together for the past one year since he was posted here last year in April,” said Mr Boy by phone.

Mr Jaranda was instrumental in peace talks between the feuding Garre and Degodia clans of Mandera North.

“He has always overseen meetings between the two clans here and ensured no animosity is propagated in his area of operation,” said Mr Boy.
