A nine-year-old girl was killed and many people were injured in Mandera County on Sunday after a bus overturned in Rhamu Town.

TYRE BURST

Rhamu OCPD Anthony Murioki told the Nation on the phone that the accident was caused by a front tyre burst.

"We suspect the bus was speeding and the tyre burst led to loss of control," he said.

According to the OCPD, two people were seriously injured and many others suffered minor injuries.

The injured passengers were taken to Rhamu Sub-County Hospital, while the two with serious injuries were transferred to Mandera County Referral Hospital – some 90km away.

The bus left Nairobi on Friday evening and arrived in Elwak on Saturday evening for an overnight stay. It then proceeded to Mandera Town on Sunday morning under armed police escort.
