A group of leaders from Mandera County has distanced itself from another one led by Hassan Noor Hassan that has threatened to decamp from the Jubilee Party unless they are given direct nominations for the August elections.

Led by Governor Ali Roba, the leaders have said the county has not agreed on negotiated democracy and that those pushing for it are a few individuals who have sensed defeat in the nominations.

Mr Roba dared the opposing group to face them in the primaries if they have the numbers.
