EACC team arrests police officers in Meru suspected of taking bribes

Three policemen were Thursday arrested in Meru for allegedly taking bribes.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officials laid a trap for the officers before arresting them while in possession of huge amounts of money said to have been collected from boda boda operators and others motorists.

The EACC team recorded a statement from the policemen before transferring them to Isiolo for further interrogations.

Upper Eastern EACC boss Ignatius Wekesa confirmed the arrests which came even as the anti-graft agency held a sensitisation week in Isiolo County.

The Upper Eastern office, which is located in Isiolo serves Tharaka-Nithi, Meru, Isiolo, Samburu and Marsabit counties.

The Eacc officials have kept crafty civil servants and other officials on their toes since the Upper Eastern office started its operations early this year.

The office was officially opened by EACC chief executive Halakhe Waqo on Monday.
