Imanyara to vie for Central Imenti seat on Chap Chap

One of the politicians instrumental in the push for multi-party democracy in the 1990s is back into active politics.

Lawyer Gitobu Imanyara will vie for the Central Imenti parliamentary seat, which he once represented, on a Maendeleo Chap Chap ticket.

Mr Imanyara on Monday said after two weeks of consultations with opinion leaders from the constituency, he had been advised to pick the Chap Chap party.

“The party does not have internal wrangles as is with others in this region,” he said at his Mariene home in Meru.

The veteran politician said he decided to come out retirement because his constituents were complaining of lack development.

Mr Imanyara, also a journalist, retired from politics after losing in the March 4, 2013 Meru senatorial election to Mr Kiraitu Murungi.

During the push for the re-introduction of pluralism, Mr Imanyara was accused of writing and publishing articles which denounced, ridiculed and discredited the Moi administration.
