  • Kaimenyi is fit to hold the position of Education CS, official says.

An organisation representing parents has criticised Kenya National Union of Teachers Secretary-General Wilson Sossion for collecting signatures for the impeachment of Education Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi.

Speaking to the Nation in Meru, Kenya National Association of Parents Vice-Chairman John Kireria said the CS was vetted and found suitable for the job.

"Prof Kaimenyi did not come from the bush to head the Education ministry. Before his appointment he was a vice-chancellor and we believe he is fit for that position. We need teachers to give him ample time to deliver," he said.

The signature-collection process was launched on Thursday during Knut's Wareng branch annual general meeting in Cheptiret, Uasin Gishu County.

"We feel like the Knut official has misplaced priorities. He should do his work and allow the CS to deliver," Mr Kireria said.

Two weeks ago, Knut failed to attend a meeting called by the CS. Mr Sossion claimed the meeting had no agenda and was therefore a waste of time. However, the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers attended, saying they saw no need to boycott it.
