A 65-year-old man was Tuesday killed by his sons in what was said to be a quarrel over land.

Josphat Kanunkiri was reportedly killed at Kabachi Location in Meru County after the two sons learnt that he had sold their family land without informing them.

The piece of land was a different one from that which the family members had built houses on and the old man had not sub-divided it to the two.

Assistant chief Tabitha Muthenya said that the two picked a quarrel with their father and started hurling stones at him.

Afterwards, they are said to have cut him with pangas until he died.

The body was moved to the Meru Level Five Hospital mortuary.

After the incident, the sons escaped after they realised that irate members of public were after them.

However, they were arrested at different locations and taken to Kamweline Police Station waiting to be arraigned in court.

Ms Muthenya thanked those who aided in the arrest of the two suspects.

She said their arrest was a sign that the Nyumba Kumi initiative was functioning well.

She condemned the act and warned residents against engaging in such actions saying this could lead them into problems.

She also urged them to support the Nyumba kumi initiative so as to enhance their safety and to easily identify criminals living among them.
