Kajuju calls for lasting solution to food, water shortage in arid areas

Meru woman representative Florence Kajuju has called for lasting measures to address perennial food and water shortage in the semi-arid areas of the county.

She was speaking in Buuri Location in Tigania East, Meru County after distributing 35 bags of maize, beans and rice to needy families.

The food was provided by the Ministry of Devolution and Planning.

Ms Kajuju said many families in semi-arid areas are affected by drought due to rain failure.

"Distribution of relief food is not a lasting solution to food shortage.

“I am urging the county government to provide more resources for water to enable people engage in irrigation farming," Ms Kajuju said.

She said she will be spending some money from the affirmative fund to facilitate women groups initiate income generating projects.
