Boda boda rider dies, four students injured in Meru road accident

A boda boda rider died on the spot while four students were injured in an accident involving a Toyota Probox taxi and two riders along the Meru-Isiolo road.
The taxi was ferrying 15 students of Bishop Lawi Imathiu Secondary School when the accident occurred at Kithoka area at around 6.50am.
One of the injured students was on a boda boda with a colleague who escaped unhurt.
Three students sustained broken limbs while another suffered head injuries and were rushed to Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital.
ONCOMING RIDER
Bishop Lawi Imathiu school principal Moses Marete said the rest of the students sustained minor injuries and were treated and discharged.
Oscar Koome, one of the students, said the vehicle was speeding when he hit potholes while trying to avoid an oncoming rider.
"The driver was speeding and seemed to be new to the road. He was avoiding hitting the rider but hit potholes, lost control and the vehicle overturned," Koome said.
The accident comes a day after two people died in an accident involving a boda boda rider and a vehicle at Ruiri, a few kilometres from Kithoka.
