A 34-year-old man was arraigned in a court in Maua, Meru County for allegedly luring young girls into sex.

Faisal Ahmed Adan, a foreigner, appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate A G Munene but was not allowed to take plea after it was revealed that he had no legal documents to be in the country.

Consequently, the magistrate directed he be remanded for 14 days during which investigations would be carried out on how he ended up in the country.

It is said that Ahmed had tried to lure an 11-year-old girl who was coming from a madrassa before a teacher who runs the school noticed him.

The girl told the Nation that Ahmed had packed a vehicle on one side of the road and when she got closer to him, he called her.

When the girl went to him, he gave her Sh10 and tried to pull her into the vehicle before she raised the alarm.

She later informed her parents, who reported the matter to Maua Police Station before Adan was arrested.

The girl's parents said the man had a habit of targeting young children, who were easily induced with goodies.

He would later take them in his vehicle to an unknown place, where he would sexually assault them.

They further said that he always pretended to be a mad person.

"This is just bad behaviour which should be punished by law. We hope justice will be realised in this case," a relative of the girl said.

Adan will return to court on April 4, when he is expected to take plea on the sex allegations.

He will also be charged with being in the country illegally if he fails to produce any legal documents.
