Two brothers who died in a house fire that killed three other relatives in Meru County a week ago were Monday buried in Nchaure Village.

There was a sombre mood as family and friends bid a final farewell to the deceased.

Mr Boniface Kimaita (27), and his brother Jimaris Muriuki (20) died after fire razed the house they were sleeping in.

Their nephews Nickson Munene (13), Denis Wamaita (7) and a niece Winnie Wanjiku (2) also perished in the inferno.

The three will be buried at their father’s home in Kangema, Murang’a County on Wednesday.

Mr Kimaita worked at the Meru County Assembly.

The assembly Speaker Joseph Kaberia eulogised him as a hard working person who always smiled and was ready to do extra duties whenever called upon.

“He joined us as a gardener on January 20, 2014 but he was always ready to do work outside his docket.

“His death in a mysterious fire is a tragedy to the Assembly. We want thorough investigations conducted to determine the cause of their death,” said Kaberia, in a speech read by his deputy Gideon Kimathi.

CALLS FOR SPEEDY INVESTIGATIONS

Mr Kimaita leaves behind a 10-months-old son, Ian Koome.

Those who spoke during the burial, including the family’s spokesman Kirima Mwiti, asked police to hasten investigations.

Meru Deputy Governor Raphael Muriungi, North Imenti MP Rahim Dawood, former Interior PS Mutea Iringo, Deputy Speaker Gideon Kimathi also called for a speedy probe into the fire incident.

Mr Kimathi said the Assembly would support the family by releasing all Mr Kimaita’s dues, including insurance payment to the next of kin.

He urged investigators to leave no stone unturned as there was a lot of speculation surrounding the incident.

County Lands executive Martin Bikuri and Education executive Limuki Kaberia said the county government was ready to support the family, and that it will be represented at a fundraiser scheduled for July 17.

Politics dominated the burial ceremony, resulting into a near fist fight between Mr Dawood and Mr Bikuri who has declared interest in the North Imenti parliamentary seat.
