Meru Governor Peter Munya said Deputy President William Ruto was using leaders from his region to attack him.

He on Thursday claimed Mr Ruto was unhappy because of his interest in contesting for the presidency against him in 2022.

He said unlike Mr Ruto, President Uhuru Kenyatta had no problem with him.

He accused a group led by Senator Kiraitu Murungi, Woman Rep Florence Kajuju and Igembe South MP Mithika Linturi of being used by the DP under the banner Kikali.

Mr Murungi is set to vie for the governor seat, Ms Kajuju for woman rep and Mr Lunturi for senator under the Kikali outfit.

Addressing a rally in Maua Stadium, Mr Munya said his critics had nothing to show for their long stay in government.

Mr Munya told Mr Murungi to quit politics after 35 years and joked “we will even give him a TV to enjoy himself".

The governor, who has crossed swords with Jubilee’s top brass for opposing the merger of affiliate parties, said this would return Kenya to a single-party dictatorship.

“We will not be forced to join any party. If you feel yours is powerful stay in it and let me stay in mine,” he said.

He urged residents to join his new party PNU, saying he consulted widely before joining retired President Mwai Kibaki’s party.

He said PNU delegates will meet on September 9 to elect new officials. “We will join PNU in large numbers whether it rains or not,” he said.

Mr Murungi had said PNU had agreed to dissolve and join Jubilee Party.

Mr Munya, who was accompanied by his deputy Muriungi and Water executive Mary Mwiti distributed sports kits, water tanks and pipes.
