Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi has accused Governor Peter Munya of being ungrateful.

Mr Murungi said he vigorously campaigned for Mr Munya’s election in 2013 “but he is now abusing me”.

Speaking during Igoji Catholic Parish family fun day, the senator said Mr Munya’s actions showed his ungrateful nature.

He said the county boss was playing dirty politics “by sending youths to disrupt my functions”.

Mr Murungi, who was accompanied by Igembe South MP Mithika Linturi, refuted Mr Munya’s claims that he had failed to use his chairmanship of the Senate Agriculture committee to help residents.

“I helped form a task force to find ways of uplifting tea and coffee farming. Banana growing will also be boosted,” he said.

EYEING GOVERNOR'S SEAT

The senator, who is eyeing the governor’s seat in the 2017 elections, said had also helped push for more resources to be allocated to the county.

“We want to improve lives,” Mr Murungi said, and challenged the governor to show how Sh7.5 billion given to Meru County in the last financial year was utilised.

He said the governor should show projects initiated by the county government in sub-counties.

Mr Murungi said he was development-minded and had helped set up many projects in Igoji.

“Our aim is to make Meru great,” Mr Murungi added as he asked residents to elect him governor, Mr Linturi senator and re-elect Woman Rep Florence Kajuju.

The senator also introduced his would-be running mate Titus Ntuchiu to the crowd.

“Munya should ask for votes in a respectful manner,” Mr Linturi said.

“Our fight should be on how to change Meru for the better. Munya is not using money given to the county for development. We should come together to grow Meru,” Senator Murungi said.

Mr Munya could not be reached for comment.
