Munya says Kiraitu 'too old' to replace him as governor

Meru Governor Peter Munya has asked his political rival Kiraitu Murungi to abandon his quest to replace him and retire.

Speaking on Saturday in Timau where he launched several county projects, Mr Munya said Senator Murungi was aged and in need of a break from politics.

"The Senator should retire from politics and go home. What interests does he have in seeking for one term only?" posed Mr Munya before breaking into a Meru song hitting out at Mr Murungi.

Mr Munya pledged to support President Uhuru Kenyatta and promised to rally Meru residents to vote for the Jubilee presidential candidate in 2017 elections.

"I fully support President Kenyatta and I encourage all of you to vote for him in the forthcoming General Elections," he said.

However, Mr Munya said he differed with Mr Kenyatta on the endorsement  of Deputy President William Ruto to take over from him in 2022 saying he is also equal to the task.

Mr Munya who hopes to vie for presidency on a PNU ticket vowed to initiate more development.
