Newly posted administrators directed to contain foreigners

Meru County Commissioner Wilfred Nyagwanga has directed newly posted administrators in Igembe Central to deal with the influx of foreigners in the area.

Mr Nyagwanga said the foreigners, especially from Ethiopia, have been using the Kiutine route to make their way to Meru and other neighbouring towns.

"We won't allow a few individuals to disturb peace among us. Arrest and take them where they are supposed to be, prison," he said.

Last year alone, more than 300 Ethiopians were arrested in different parts of Meru County on their way to Nairobi.

It is believed Meru town is used as a conduit by foreigners.

The senior administrator spoke during the unveiling of new Igembe Central sub-county administrators including Deputy County Commissioner Jacob Otieno.

He further directed chiefs and their assistants to curb cattle rustling which has left many people dead and property destroyed.

In the latest incident in Tigania East, a Kenya Police Reservist (KPR) was killed and his firearm stolen.

A team of officers from Meru and Isiolo counties is pursuing the attackers in Attan in Isiolo where it is believed the stolen animal were driven to.

"We were forced to take more than 200 animals from the suspected Turkana attackers which we will not return to them until they surrender those that they stole," said Mr Nyagwanga.

Mr Otieno pledged to work with all leaders to tackle insecurity in Igembe Central.

"I am up to the task and also ready to serve the people," the newly posted DCC said.

Igembe Central MP Kubai Kiringo exuded confidence the new national government officers posted to the area will help tackle insecurity.
