Three children drowned over the weekend while playing in a gulley in Thubuku Village in Tigania East Sub-County.

The three aged four, seven and 10 years are believed to have been playing near a stagnant pool of water when they drowned.

Tigania East OCPD Charles Kosgei told the Nation by phone that the bodies of two children were recovered on Sunday while the eldest was retrieved Monday.

He said the family initially thought two children had died only to later discover the body of the third child floating on Monday.

“The area is hilly and floods flow from the hills creating gullies.

“They were not aware that the pool was deep. It is unfortunate that the family has lost three children in an accident,” Kosgei said.

He said the bodies had been removed to Meru Level Five Hospital mortuary.

Mr Kosgei urged parents in the area to keep watch over their children to avert such incidents especially during the rainy season.
