Tigania West CID boss James Oludhe was on Monday arrested by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers for allegedly soliciting a Sh35,000 bribe from a teacher.

Mr Stanley Mwiti, who had a court case, told EACC officers the suspect asked for the bribe so that he would not write a letter of interdiction on him to be forwarded to the Teachers Service Commission.

Mr Mwiti is said to have reported the matter to the EACC on Friday and recorded a statement on Saturday before recording his conversation with Mr Oludhe.

EACC upper eastern boss Ignatius Wekesa told the Nation the suspect was being questioned and he would brief the media after investigations were complete.

"It is true we have made the arrest and we are currently interrogating him," he said in a telephone interview.

Mr Wekesa put corrupt public officers on notice, saying that they will face the law.

“Public servants are supposed to provide services to the public, but the DCIO who we arrested had decided to solicit money from citizens. We will not condone that,” said Mr Wekesa.

He urged residents to report any suspicious activities to the EACC office in Isiolo, adding that his office would conduct similar operations in Tharaka Nithi, Isiolo, Marsabit, Meru and Samburu counties.

Mr Oludhe was taken to the Isiolo EACC office, where he recorded a statement for the better part of Monday. He had served in his position for two months.

EACC detectives from the regional office in Isiolo have intensified their fight against corruption, leading to the arrests of a number of suspects since the office was opened early this year.

Five policemen and a number of administrators are among those arrested and charged.
