Two Ugandans fined Sh10,000 for illegal stay in Meru

  • They will be deported back to Uganda after paying the fines.

Two Ugandans were fined Sh10,000 each on Monday after pleading guilty to being in the country illegally.

Tabitha Jamal and Matovu Mohamed appeared before Meru principal magistrate Stella Abuya.

Prosecutor Antony Musyoka told the court that the two were arrested in Kooje in Meru town.

The two said they had come to Kenya to start a fishing business that a friend was to introduce them to.

Asked how they crossed the border, they said the same person had misled them and they paid him money for passports and transport.

They produced passports in the court that had no official stamps.

Ms Abuya ordered the two to pay the fines and be deported back to Uganda.
