Residents of Nkunga in Meru Tuesday demonstrated over increased attacks by wild animals.
The protestors blocked the Meru-Nanyuki highway paralysing transport for the better part of the day.
Marauding herds of elephants that have strayed from the Upper Imenti forest have destroyed crops worth millions of shillings.
"We are tired of fighting elephants as we try to secure our crops and ourselves.
“We want the Kenya Wildlife Service to take back the elephants to the forest,” said Mr Ernest Kirim.
Many people, Mr Kirimi said, have injuries from attacks by the elephants which have been tormenting them for over five years.
Ms Magdalene Gakii said the elephants have destroyed an electric fence near the forest where they access peoples’ farms.
